Over the last 6 months, I’ve heard from people with varied life situations. Different ages, living arrangements, job statuses, financial means, and health issues. Through these discussions, I’ve focused my teaching on 1) Honoring what’s difficult (naming, expressing, sharing what’s hard), and 2) Looking for the good (reflecting on ordinary yet meaningful blessings).
Beyond these two big themes, there are many small themes that are shared by everyone. A pandemic can isolate us—make us feel like we’re the only person that feels a certain way. But this isn’t true! Whatever you’re experiencing, thousands of others are experiencing it, too. There is nothing wrong with you. You are a normal human being going through an amazingly tough time (we all are!).
Some other themes I’ve heard: disrupted sleep, information and news overload, increased anxiety, loss of meaning, feelings of grief, and fuzzy thoughts.
Early in the pandemic, I created a Monday Meditation series. Each week included a short audio-guided meditation plus everyday awareness suggestions around a theme. This month, I realized: We’re not just “getting through,” we’re living within this pandemic for a long while. And we need free resources to ground us. So, I reactivated the Monday Meditation series. Every two weeks, I make a new addition. (This week’s theme is Kindness. Two week’s ago, the theme was Getting Better Sleep.)
If you have suggestions for topics, please contact me or write anonymously on my website. If something is “up” for you, it’s also up for other people! I want these resources to serve a wide audience. I’m here. And I’m listening.
