We’ve been shaken awake these last two weeks.
We grieve the victims in Buffalo, NY and Uvalde, TX. Both shootings were horrific, unimaginable. And yet they happened.
When faced with such deep heartache, we often deflect into analysis, outrage, and blame.
Underneath the outrage is tender vulnerability. There’s so much to feel! And it’s these feels that keep us connected to each other.
Underneath the fear and vulnerability is grief. And underneath the grief is love.
Unlike intellectual deflection, love moves us forward. It gets us unstuck.
Love helps us be present.
Love helps us listen.
Love helps us do the next right thing. (Including action toward gun control.)
In the words of Rumi, “With life as short as a half-taken breath, don’t plant anything but love.”
(In my Friday morning meditation class, I just led a practice to feel all the feels and open our hearts. It’s a way to move through these unimaginable events. Click here to listen to the meditation.)
