Throughout the day, you say many autopilot phrases: Hello, how are you?, goodbye, see you later, and thank you.
Each of these is a chance to pause.
Take time to look at the person. Say the words with intention.
If appropriate, add a little extra. Let people know why you’re thankful and what exactly you appreciate about them.
We humans are relational creatures. Social connections—even at work—increase our well-being. When we’re seen and heard, we feel better.
spending time with ordinary greetings does two things:
It creates a pause—a chance to breathe.
It cultivates a connection—a reminder of what’s most important.
Though it’s difficult to make every interaction meaningful, it’s possible to slow down for 3 greetings a day (even 1 is great!).
You might crave a 180-degree shift—from overwhelmed to relaxed—but it’s more practical to make regular 1-degree shifts.
There are many places to pause in a busy day. Whenever you remember, give a genuine hello, goodbye, or thank you.
